It was never supposed to be about us

We as human beings have a natural instinct to make every thought and action about ourselves. That instinct is called pride and I am so incredibly guilty of it. Pride demands that we receive glory and credit for our actions instead of having an attitude that recognizes God's greatness beyond our own. Throughout scripture, God consistently reminds us how much he hates pride because he knows how destructive it is our lives.

The life of Job provides insight on we can learn from prideful actions. Job served God so faithfully throughout his entire life, yet God still allowed Him to suffer to the point of breaking. Job cries out and asks God to give him an explanation of why he is enduring excruciating pain. God's answer is simple: He reminds Job who HE is and by doing so, he allows Job to see who he is not.

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.

Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

On what were its footings set,

or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together

and all the angels shouted for joy?"

Psalms 38: 4-7

All the glory belongs to the One who created the earth, the stars, and us. We truly are entitled to nothing. What makes the difference is that because we are children of God, we are made something beautiful.
